The Pathology and Clinical Laboratory of Morehouse General Hospital serves as a diagnostic branch of the hospital. We have highly skilled, dedicated professionals who work diligently to complement the Medical Staff and other hospital departments; ensuring the finest medical care possible to the community. Our lab is dedicated to total professionalism, competence, and efficiency.

Our laboratory staff consists of Louisiana licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS) and Louisiana licensed phlebotomists.

Morehouse General Hospital’s lab performs over 100,000 tests each year adheres to strict quality control and quality assurance program guidelines and our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to provide the fastest, most accurate results. Our lab offers the following services:

Cobas C6000 contains (c501 & e601) Blood Analyzer

Rouche Criterion II - Urine Analizer

This urine analyzer ensures accurate results, test after test. It maximizes our lab efficiency by reducing "hands on" operator time. And its convenient, compact design makes it an ideal fit for this work area. The Chemstrip criterion II analyzer is designed for continuous sample processing of Chemstrip 10 MD Urine Test Strips from roche Diagnostics. It is optimized for 15-75 tests per day.

  Beckman Coulter LH500 Hematology Analyzer

Hematology analyzers are computerized, highly specialized and automated machines that count the number of different kinds of white and red blood cells in a blood sample. The COULTER LH 500 Hematology Analyzer helps increase productivity, enhances linearity, improves diff flagging and reduces false positive flagging—all in a compact design that fits the needs our lab space.

  Allegra X 22R Centrigfuge

One of the most common uses for centrifuges is in separating mixtures of things. A washing machine is a mixture of clothes and water and the spinning drum separates those very efficiently. Laboratory centrifuges are used to separate things like blood, which consists of red blood cells suspended in plasma (a yellowish fluid). Put some blood in a test-tube and spin it at high speed and you separate out these two components very quickly. The Allegra X22R centrifuges performs with endurance under the most exacting standards, offering enhanced productivity and reliability for almost any clinical sample preparation. This device is ideal for serum, plasma and whole blood sample processing; protein precipitate, particulate and cell sedimentation; and much more.

  Semiens CA1500 - Blood Coagulator

Coagulation is the process through which a liquid is formed into a semi-solid mass. For example, when a healthy person is cut, the blood quickly coagulates, or forms clots, in the wounded area to stop the bleeding. A coagulator is a substance or device that promotes coagulation. The CA-1500 System quickly analyzes large quantities of samples with a high-level of accuracy. The compact, fully automated system performs clotting, chromogenic, and immunologic tests. Its advanced technology allows accurate sample identification and multiple dilution analysis (MDA) for detecting inhibitors during factor assays.

Siemens MicroScan - Walkaway 40 plus

Microbes such as bacteria, protozoans, and fungi play a role in many disease processes. When a patient presents with a condition which is caused by an infection, the doctor usually wants to determine which organism is responsible so that the best treatment can be selected. A diagnostic microbiologist takes a sample collected from the patient and cultures it to see what grows, returning results to the doctor. MicroScan WalkAway plus offers simultaneous automation of overnight, rapid and specialty panels that test for both gram negative and gram positive bacteria. The WalkAway plus System also offer advanced automation features that improve laboratory productivity by decreasing system maintenance activity.
